Jammu, Jan 4: The J&K Pradesh Congress Committee has endorsed the genuine demands of Jammu and Kashmir Co-ordination Committee of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) representatives who have demanded due protocol and status equivalent to the BDC Chairpersons apart from enhancement of financial competence & powers apart from adequate funds for the development of ULB areas in Jammu and Kashmir.
These demands were put forth before the President JKPCC Ghulam Ahmed Mir when a delegation of J&K Co-ordination Committee of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elected representatives met him at Congress HQ. Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu today to highlight their genuine issues with regard to elected Urban Bodies in the state.
The delegation said that the elected heads of the ULBs are also members of the District Planning and Development Board as per law but have not been categoriesed in the matter of protocol and status in the recent order which is discriminatory. They also stressed up the need to empower the Urban Local Bodies with enhancement of financial powers and competence and adequate financial support for due discharge of their duties to come up to the expectations of the people and the ever increasing and expanding needs and influx of urbanization from rural areas.
