EARLY TIMES REPORT

SRINAGAR, Jan 21: As the security forces achieved major success in Jammu and Kashmir against militants in 2019, particularly in the last one month, Operations against militants in valley will be further intensified in the days to come.
Sources said that the number of militants killed in 2018-19 was around 270 which is higher than 2016- 2017.
Sources said that in 2010, as many as 270 militants were killed in action by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
The number reduced to 119 in 2011. Then in 2012, 84 ultras were killed, 100 in 2013, 110 (2014), 113 (2015), 165 (2016) and 218 last year, the sources said.
They said the higher number of militant casualties in 2018- 19 and now in 2020 was because of pinpoint intelligence and meticulous operations by the security agencies.
However, the successes notwithstanding, the year gone by was one of the bloodiest for the security forces as they suffered the highest number of fatalities than in any other year in the past decade.
One of the top officials of the security forces told early times that they will intensify these operations in the days to come.
He admitted that the militant activities increased during the last two months in Kashmir but will go all-out and intensify the operations against the militants now.
The official said that the direct security control of the Home Ministry impacts on the security situation of the valley and “things work very effectively”.
Sources said that the MHA has also asked the security forces in Kashmir to go pro-active and make the Jammu and Kashmir militancy-free.
“We are dealing with a hostile neighbour (Pakistan) and we will have to foil its attempts. There are reports of infiltration from Pakistan” the MHA has said.
Sources said that the MHA has emphasized upon the officers to maintain pressure on militants and exhorting all ranks to remain vigilant to maintain law and order and security of the area. The MHA has directed for “well organised and pro-active” operations against the terrorists, particularly in upper reaches, to increase the sense of security among the masses,” sources maintained.
Sources said that the MHA has also Complimented the efforts of police and other security agencies for maintaining law and order in the valley. “It was due to close coordination and synergy among the security forces that recent success was achieved against the militants,” the MHA has said.
Meanwhile sources said that the special forces of the Army, Navy and Air Force have been deployed in Kashmir valley to carry out combined counter-terrorist operations.
The three special forces, namely the Army’s Para (Special Forces), Navy’s Marine Commandos (MARCOS) and Indian Air Force’s Garuds are being deployed in Kashmir valley.
The induction of the joint special troops of the three forces has already started as the Army Para (SF) elements have already been inducted into an area considered to be a traditional terror hotbed near Srinagar, they said.
