Tree Talk Crusader holds interaction programme

JAMMU, Jan 29: On the occasion of BasantPanchmi an interaction was organised with O. P. Sharma Vidyarthi, IFS, A Tree Talk Crusader on the eve of 838th Tree Talk Interaction at K. L. Sehgal Hall, Jammu.
Dr.Mohit Gera IFS, Principal, Chief Conservator of Forests was Chief Guest on the occasion whereas Prof.Yash Pal Sharma, University of Jammu presided over the function.
Vidyarthi in his interaction shared his experiences of tree talk. He said trees are lungs of the Earth and only these have the capability to generate oxygen to maintain healthy environment for the living organisms to survive. He said we should thoroughly know about our vegetation and all its dimensions, which are closely interlinked with our survival. He said that his love for the trees inspired him to complete his post graduation in Botany, chose Forestry as profession, inspired him to write on environment and launch his missionary campaign of tree talk to bring trees close to the lives of the people. Dr. Mohit Gera highlighted the role of trees and forests for conservation of soil and water, climate change mitigation, combating pollution and act as infrastructure for the tourism. He lauded the efforts of NDS for the cause of Dogri. Prof. Yash Pal said that environment, culture and languages are interconnected and the Basant is the manifestation of trees and forests to celebrate the changing weather. Tree Talk by OP Sharma Vidyarthi is a long journey and helped the people especially the youth to understand trees in real sense.
Advocate Dogra Harish Kaila said we celebrate our festivals connected with seasons to express our indebtedness with the environment and changing colours of the nature. He said that many Dogri writers have written a lot on all the dimensions of Basant and highlighted the colourful nature.
Capt. Lalit Sharma said that our ethnic history has been guided by our forests, meadows and wild fauna. He further said that in India we have kinship with forests and trees. Yash Pal Yash , General Secretary NDS compered the proceedings of the programme and extended vote of thanks. Yellow Halwa was distributed on the occasion as part of cultural ritual which symbolises the yellow flowers and flowering mastered fields.
