GDC Kathua hosts Sports Festival 2020

KATHUA, Feb 13: An Intra zonal Sports Festival-2020 organised by Govt Degree College Kathua was today declared open by Deputy Commissioner, OP Bhagat.
Department of Higher Education has initiated the process of organising Sports Festival in Degree Colleges of UT of J&K. 10 colleges has been assigned the task of organising such intra zonal Sports Festivals.
GDC Bani, Mahanpur, Billawar, Basholi, Marheen, Hiranagar, GCW Kathua and GDC Boys are participating in the event, which shall culminate on Feb 18, 2020.
The event will witness competitions in Cricket, Football, Kho Kho, Kabaddi, Hockey, Tug of War and Table Tennis. Both men and women shall compete in the Inter collegiate tournament .
In his inaugural address, Deputy Commissioner congratulated the staff and students of the college for organising the mega event in the college. He said that Games and Sports are necessary for personality development of youth.
Earlier, Principal of the College, Prof. Assa Ram Sharma, presented a welcome address.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Pooja Sarmal and Harneet Kour.
The highlight of the day was a cultural programme by the students. NCC Cadets of the college presented a Guard of honour.
The first day of the Sports Festival witnessed Kabbaddi, Kho Kho and Football matches.
In Kabbaddi, GDC Kathua defeated GDC Bani and in Football GDC Hiranagr defeated GDC Billawar.
In Kho Kho, GDC Bashili defeated GDC Mahanpur.
The Principals of the colleges of District Kathua, Prof. Koushal Kumar, Prof. Jugal Kishore, Prof. Y.P Kundal, Dr. Raj Kumar and Dr. P.K. Rao were present. Ex Principals and Professors, Dr. Nater Singh, Dr. Janak Singh, Dr. Ram Krishan, Dr. Ram Murti Sharma, Prof. Vijay Sharma, Dr. CP Sharma, Prof. Anirudh Sharma, Prof. Jaswinder Singh, Prof. Shubh Kumar, Prof. Rakesh Singh, Prof. Sandeep Chaudhary,Dr. Sumit Dubey, Dr. Kailash Sharma, , Dr. Kehar Singh, Dr. Rachna and Prof. Rakesh Jasrotia (CTA President) were present on the occasion.
