Congress all set to become irrelevant
Fails to open its account in Delhi for second consecutive term

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 13: Congress party drawing a blank in the recently held Delhi assembly elections has once again revealed that Grand Old Party of the country is facing very tough times.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The Congress party which after every loss used to talk about electoral reforms should stop hiding behind the excuses and go for reforms within its ranks.”
He said the biggest reform which Congress needs to go for is to look for a leader, who can pull the party out of the prevailing crisis. “It’s for the second consecutive term that Congress has failed to open its account in Delhi. The Congress ruled Delhi for 10-years prior to the arrival of Arvind Kejriwal on the scene but after his appearance the Congress disappeared from the National Capital,” the analyst added.
“Since the day Rahul Gandhi has resigned as the president of the All India Congress Committee, the party has not been able to build the consensus on who could be the next AICC chief. Sonia Gandhi took charge as an interim head and she has not been able to decide about whom to choose as the next head of the party,” he said.
An observer said that crisis prevalent in the Congress at the highest level have led to party units in States and Union Territories going haywire and J&K unit of the Congress party is no exception. “Infighting within the party is an open secret. Many leaders have deserted the Congress and have moved towards other greener pastures,” he added.
He said that former chief minister of erstwhile J&K State and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, too seems to be looking towards returning to J&K politics as his term in the Rajya Sabha is going to end within a year. “The Congress leaders in J&K have vanished and it seems they have taken retirement from the politics. They don’t even speak about the public issues,” the observer said.
Another analyst said that if Congress fails to put its act together in Jammu and Kashmir there is every possibility of it drawing a blank in the newly carved out J&K UT as and when elections will be held here. “After facing a humiliating defeat in 2019 parliamentary elections, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is trying to emerge as the new leader of the Congress but there are reports that mother Sonia wants her son Rahul to be the heir and not the daughter. The Congress party is on crossroads if its leaders fail to resolve the issues we may see the Grand Old Party of the country turning into a non-entity,” the analyst added.
An observer said that the Congress’s J&K unit too is in doldrums as the party is finding it difficult to put its act together in absence of a strong leadership in New Delhi.
