Centre for Women’s Studies organises workshop in JU

Jammu, Feb 25: The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu organized a Workshop today, for students of Department of Political Science, University of Jammu on “Gender Sensitization”.
Prof. Baljeet Singh, Head, Department of Political Science, University of Jammu, while welcoming the resource persons, introduced the theme of the Workshop and spoke about the importance of holding such workshops.
The Research Scholars and students of the department participated in the workshop.
Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies took the first session and interacted with the participants on various aspects of Gender and Gender Roles. She also undertook different activities in which the students participated very enthusiastically. The other resource person for the workshop was Dr.Suraj Mohani Jamwal from GLM Govt. Degree College, Hiranagar, Jammu who spoke about “Need to Gender Sensitize the Young Generation” and spoke at length about gendering process quoting different examples from day today life.
Dr. Hema Gandotra, Faculty from Department of Sociology, who conducted a session on the ‘Life of Third Gender: An Insight’ and deliberated on the issue using data from Jammu and Kashmir The fourth session was undertaken by Dr. Saranjit Kaur, from Centre for Women’s Studies who spoke on the conceptual understanding of Violence, its forms and causes and also narrated few cases of Domestic Violence. The valedictory session was attended by Prof. Baljeet Singh, Head Department of Political Science, University of Jammu who appreciated the Centre for organizing the workshop and congratulated the participants for attending the same. He also distributed the certificates among the participants. Among others present were Dr Hema Gandotra, Dr.Suraj Mohani Jamwal and Dr Priyanka Katoch.
