Anantnag, Feb 27: In an unprecedented development, the residents of Ganeshpora village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district Thursday quarreled with contractor and employees of Rural Development Department after finding them violating the construction norms during the construction of Panchayat Ghar.
As per reports, the vigilant villagers raised alarm and contacted senior officials of Rural Development Department after they found contractor violating the construction norms. “As per the technical specifications and sanctioned estimate, contractor was supposed to go for the excavation of plinth area and lay the foundation of the building but he desired to skip excavation and started laying plinth over the ground which we didn’t allowed and forced the engineers and contractor to comply with the construction norms,” a group of people told Early Times over phone.
They alleged that a group of employees of Rural Development Department were supporting the contractor. “The staff, supposed to supervise the construction works, always skips duties so that the contractors can carry out the constructions works according to their will,” locals alleged, while seeking the intervention of top officials of the department.
“For two days, Panchayat representatives and the locals had heated arguments with the contractor and employees of Rural Development Department over the violation of construction norms.”
Locals said. Sarpanch Ganeshpora, Shakeel Ahmad told Early Times that they have conveyed to contractor to construct the building as per the norms and drawings.
“I ringed engineers of Rural Development Department and requested them to visit the site. They also directed the contractor to execute the work as per norms,” he added.
Assistant Engineer, Sarjan Ahmad admitted that the contractor had plans to violate the construction norms but we didn’t allow him to do so. “He had planned to skip it but we made him to continue the construction work as the sactioned estimate,” he claimed. Assistant Engineer said that Executive Engineer of Rural Engineering Wing Anantnag also visited the construction site and expressed satisfaction.
