SRINAGAR, Feb 29: Drive against the absentees, including teachers, continued since educational institutions reopened on Monday after winter vacation in the Kashmir valley, where five more members of a government middle school were suspended, an officials spokesman said on Saturday.
He said taking a serious note of absenteeism and non-seriousness of teachers towards their duties, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal in central Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Baba on the instructions of District Development Commissioner (DDC) on Friday suspended five staff members found absent from duty during a surprise visit of Zonal Education Officer, Ganderbal to the Government Middle School Nunner.
The ADC said the culture of absenteeism will not be tolerated and any official found guilty of dereliction of duty will be sternly dealt with.
With this a total of 70 teaches and other officials were suspended since Monday for remaining absent from their duties in the valley. Officials said while 40 teachers were suspended in Kulgam, 25 others were suspended in Kupwara and Handwara in north Kashmir.
Schools reopened in the Kashmir valley after winter vacation on Monday. However, for the first time students attended their classes since August 5 when the Centre abrogated special status of the state and divided it into two Union Territories (UTs).
