Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Mar 28: Saturday saw a quantum jump in the Novel Corona Virus cases as 13 more persons tested positive for the Virus in the Jammu & Kashmir divisions respectively. The number of people affected by the Virus has reached 33 in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
Out of the 33 affected persons one has passed away while as two patients have recovered so far. As on date there are 30 active cases of Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir. While as Kashmir accounts for 23 such patients the number of such patients in Jammu division is seven.
Out of the 13 persons who tested positive today six are residents of Srinagar district, three are residents of Hajin in North Kashmir's Bandipora district, three are residents of Jammu division while as one case has been detected in Budgam district.
In the Kashmir valley the COVID-19 patients are residents of Srinagar, Budgam and Bandipora districts with the other districts yet to be touched by Corona Virus. If reports are to be believed then Rajouri is the worst hit district in the Jammu division.
The spokesman of Jammu & Kashmir government Rohit Kansal in a tweet said that five more persons tested positive for Corona Virus in the evening adding that the total number of people affected by Corona Virus is 33.
"Hardly do I finish my press briefing-28 cases-that I get more unpleasant news-5 new positive cases-2 in Srinagar, 3 in Jammu-all contacts of previously positive ones; All Jammu cases asymptomatic. We are at 33 now," wrote Kansal in a tweet on the social networking site Twitter.
Earlier in the day the government spokesman through yet another tweet had said that seven more persons have tested positive for COVID-19. He said that the persons affected have either a travel history or have been in a contact with positive cases who took part in a religious congregation.
"Tough to be harbinger of unpleasant news. But being informed is being prepared. 7 more positive cases in Srinagar today. 4 cases-history of contact with already positive cases of religious congregation; other three- travel history outside J&K contacts being traced," Kansal tweeted.
Addressing a virtual press conference this evening, Kansal said that the administration is trying its best trace the contacts that have come in contact with the COVID-19 patients adding that the same is critical to mitigation of crisis. He said that tracing out the contacts of COVID-19 patients is a cumbersome job and it would lead to inconvenience for the people as a whole.
"While finding out the contacts it has been established that 11 of positive cases of Kashmir are those who have been traced to a single religious congregation. Six other cases have been traced out to be those who have a travel history to Saudi Arabia. At the same time an affected person has suppressed his travel history to Dubai," said Kansal.
The government spokesman said that 35,000 beds have been earmarked for providing quarantine facilities for the patients affected by Corona Virus. He said that while 10,000 beds have been earmarked at Srinagar 6,500 such beds have been earmarked at Jammu. He added that 1000 beds each have been set up in the other districts of the union territory.
