Grim Scenario
3/29/2020 11:47:59 PM

The surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the Valley, has created fear that this deadly virus may have crept deep within the community and number of cases may increase in coming days.
At present most of the cases who have travel history to other places are coming to fore and the people who were in direct contact with the victims seem to be the ones who have caught this virus. The number is increasing with each passing day. This has pressed the panic button across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The task for the administration is becoming difficult with each passing day. Now, it’s not only about preventing the people coming from other places mingling into the society.
The dynamics have changed. It looks like that the chain has already been formed and many people still don’t know that they have become the carriers and pose a potential threat to others.
Eleven hospitals across the J&K UT have been declared as the COVID-19 centers. In this phase hospitals are being prepared to deal with the cases which may reach the health facilities to seek cure. But the big question is, are the hospitals ready to handle the rush? There have been reports that doctors have not been provided with the protective gear and they are reluctant to handle the patients as they fear that they could themselves become the victims.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration besides acquiring the protective gear for medicos will have to ensure that enough facilities are at place to treat the patients. It’s not an easy task.
The biggest challenge is to acquire the ventilators and trained medical staff to deal with the consequences, which one can foresee.
The J&K UT administration recently claimed that the tests to check whether the patients are positive or negative are being conducted at a fast pace, and the speed is much faster than the other States and UTs. But the fast changing scenario is proving that COVID-19 is not only about testing the patients.
In absence of any specific treatment the patients will be needing life support systems to survive. Ones who are able to make it to the hospitals may survive but the ones who don’t reach the hospitals could end up dying without even getting a chance to get treated. It’s a grim scenario. Most of us are clueless about how to come out from this mess. Fingers are crossed and people are hoping that the chain will break and they will somehow survive this COVID-19 scare, which has stopped the wheel of the planet earth.
