EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 4: The sudden and arbitrary decision of Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua Administration of termination of entire nursing staff amid COVID-19 pandemic has thrown the healthcare system of the hospital out of gear and rendered the staff jobless.
Angered over the dictatorial decision of Principal GMC Kathua, the terminated nursing staff staged protest demonstration against the administration today outside the hospital.
They alleged that hospital administration has betrayed them as they were earlier assured that their contract will be given extension, which expired on March 31 but suddenly administration issued termination letter in favour of 47 nursing staff rendering them jobless.
“We had been working tirelessly during COVID-19 pandemic and we were promised that extension will be given to us for another period and we continued to give our services. When we contacted the Principal GMC Kathua to know about our fate, we were given termination letter in the evening,” they alleged.
“We met Principal GMC Kathua, Dr Suleman Choudhary on March 18, 2020 at his office as their contract was going to be expired on March 31. He very confidently said that they will be given extension for sure and again we met him on March 25, he again assured that there is nothing to worry about,” said Pooja Devi, member of nursing staff.
They further said that they had been continuously asking the administration for the last three days about their extension but today Principal backed out of his promise and categorically denied their extension and ordered the clerical staff to issue them termination letter immediately.
