PDA suspends employees for ‘helping’ land encroachers at Aru Pahalgam
5/5/2020 12:27:01 AM
Early Times Report

Anantnag, May 4: Pahalgam Development Authority on Monday placed four employees under suspension for ‘helping’ land encroachers at Aru Pahalgam.
“During the site inspection on 04-05-2020, it was observed that some encroachers have illegally encroached upon 50 kanals of land at Aru and as per local enquiry the officials of PDA have assisted the violators for carrying out illegal fencing on state/forest land,” reads an order, issued by Chief Executive Officer Pahalgam Development Authority Muhstaq Ahmad Simnani. The employees and officials, who have been placed under suspension, were identified as Mohd Ismail Mir (Works supervisor), Bashir Ahmad Magray (Road Supervisor) Ghulam Hassan Dar (SLW) and Mushtaq Ahmad Khan (SLW).
CEO PDA, Muhstaq Ahmad Simnani told Early Times that he ordered an enquiry into the matter and those found guilty will be punished. “It appears they have managed to ferry bribed wire to the area illegally however the poles used for fencing the area have been managed by the encroachers from nearby forests,” he added.
Soon after the CEO PDA, Muhstaq Ahmad Simnani suspended his employees, the wildlife department that takes care of Aru-overa wildlife sanctuary swung into action. Regional wildlife warden Rashid Naqash and Wildlife Warden South Raouf Zargar claimed that they have sought detailed report from their field functionaries. Important to mention here, Pahalgam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag always remains target of land mafia and during uncertainties influential people with the support few Pahalgam residents attempt the grab the land particularly under the grab of 60-C gazette.
Official sources told Early Times that more than 33 hectares of forest and state land is under encroachment at Pahalgam while as in Anantnag district around 27094 kanal of forest land is under encroachment.
