SRINAGAR, May 29: Since the COVID-19 test of a Shopian man turned out positive today, a day after his death the death toll due to Corona Virus in union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 28.
In the meantime, 128 fresh cases of virus came to fore from the union territory. At the same time the Jammu & Kashmir government has said that 46 percent of COVID-19 patients are travelers and they have come from different parts of the country.
Reports said that an elderly person of Shopian district who was admitted at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital having ailments like hypertension, diabetes and pneumonia passed away on Thursday. His COVID-19 test was carried out and same was received today which came out as positive. This is the first death due to Corona Virus in Shopian district.
So far 28 persons have lost their lives due to Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir. Srinagar district has recorded seven deaths with Anantnag and Baramulla districts reporting five deaths each, Kulgam four deaths, Budgam and Jammu districts two deaths each while as Bandipora, Udhampur and Shopian recording a death each.
Meanwhile, 128 fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported from both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions of the union territory. Srinagar reported 27 fresh cases followed by Kulgam 19 cases, Kupwara 18 cases, Poonch 14 cases, Pulwama 13 cases, Baramulla eight cases, Jammu seven cases, Anantnag, Kathua and Rajouri six cases each, samba two cases, Shopian and Udhampur one case each.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 128 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 36 from Jammu division and 92 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 2,164. According to the bulletin, of the total 2164 positive cases in the UT of J&K 990 have been reported as of travelers and 1174 have been reported as others.
Also, one COVID-19 death has been reported from Kashmir division. Moreover, 16 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, five from Jammu division and 11 from Kashmir division. Out of 2,164 positive cases, 1,261 are active positive, 875 have recovered and 28 have died; three in Jammu division and 25 in Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 1, 56,010 test results available, 1, 53,846 samples have been tested as negative till date.
Additionally, till date 1, 58,773 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 34,495 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 54 in hospital quarantine, 1,261 in hospital isolation and 41,525 under home surveillance. Besides, 81,410 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 295 positive cases, 170 active positive, 120 recovered, five deaths; Kulgam has 273 positive cases, 246 active positive, 23 recoveries, four deaths; Kupwara has 255 positive cases, 181 active positive, 74 recovered; Srinagar has 246 positive cases, 111 active positive, 128 recovered, seven deaths; Baramulla has 177 positive cases, 70 active positive, 102 recovered, five deaths.
“Shopian has 152 positive cases, 44 active positive, 107 recovered, one death; Bandipora has 145 positive cases, 12 active positive, 132 recovered, one death; Budgam has 89 positive cases, 35 active positive, 52 recovered, two deaths; Pulwama 65 positive cases, 53 active positive, 12 recovered and Ganderbal has 31 positive cases, seven active positive, 24 recoveries,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 128 positive cases, 89 active positive, 37 recoveries, two deaths; Ramban has 75 positive cases, 72 active positive, three recoveries; Kathua has 65 positive cases, 46 active positive, 19 recovered; Udhampur has 52 positive cases, with 29 active positive, 22 recovered, one death; Poonch has 38 active positive cases; Samba has 34 positive cases, 24 active positive, 10 recoveries.
“Rajouri has 21 positive cases, 16 active positive, five recovered; Reasi has 13 positive cases, 10 active positive, three recovered, Kishtwar has eight positive cases, seven active positive, one recovered and Doda has two positive cases, one active positive, one recovered,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin has urged upon the public to maintain physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently clean hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquettes & hygiene which is the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
