| Dumping by Construction Company pollutes surroundings, irks locals | | |  ASHWANI SHARMA

UDHAMPUR, May 31: In sheer violation of the laid down norms, a Construction Company with the name and style, SRM Contractors Pvt Ltd, who is entrusted with the work of widening Chenani-Sudh Mahadev road is illegally dumping debris and boulders on a piece of land falling under Khasra number 21 at village Baishty, Chenani thereby lowering the level of houses in the vicinity.
Sources informed that the unauthorized dumping has violated the deed signed by the company as the adjoining areas are getting polluted with the illegal activity which is giving sleepless nights to the locals.
Villagers residing nearby the dumping site have become prone to breathing related diseases like chest infection and asthma amid the rising fear of COVID-19 pandemic with each passing day.
Pushpa Devi and other local residents of the area told Early Times that the forest area near the dumping site is facing threat while the environment, agriculture land and residential houses are also endangered due to the dust but the authorities are unmoved.
“We appeal to the higher authorities to look into the matter and take suitable action against erring company and compensate the adjoining residents who have suffered damages due to illegal dumping,” she said.
