JHRBA urges govt to keep Air-passengers in Jammu
6/1/2020 9:58:04 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 1: Jammu Hotel Restaurant and Bar Association has urged upon the government to keep air passengers in Jammu rather than in Katra as per the new direction of the government.
“The hotels in Jammu have been closed for the last more than two months due to the ongoing Corona pandemic. On 22nd of May, the hotels were informed by the district administration and tourism department that as the flights are starting from the 25th of May, the hotels should be geared up to receive the passengers who will be compulsorily quarantined for a few days till the test results came out. Most of the hotels were lying closed and at the behest of the administration, urgent measures were taken and the hotels were hurriedly brought back to working conditions” said Raju Chowdhary, President JHRBA.
He further said, “We offered very reasonable rates and made sure that all the mandatory protocols were in place and even spent lot of money for it. But to our utter shock, the passengers instead of coming to hotels in Jammu were diverted by the administration to Katra. Now we are being told that Katra is the quarantine centre for all the air passengers.”
Raju Choudhary further said that it would cause great inconvenience to the passengers and also left the hotels in lurch. “These hotels which restarted operations in the last few days are getting only one or two rooms whereas their expenses run in Lakhs of rupees per day thus making them bleed further”, he said and requested the government to first fill the Jammu based hotels and if overflowed the excess passengers should be sent to Katra.
They also asked for a revival plan for the hospitality sector, according to which they had demanded deferment of all statutory liabilities, including EMIs, to a minimum of 12 months and waiver of interest for the same period, subsidize employment for six months by the government, contribute 50% of the salary per employee, while excise fees, property taxes as well as municipal taxes be suspended from 15th March, till the end of COVID-19 period.
