Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 5: In order to curb GST evasion and check its compliance, a team of State Taxes Department (STD) Jammu today inspected several markets in Jammu city here. The team was headed by Rifat Kohli, Additional Commissioner, State Taxes (Administration & Enforcement) and it comprised State Taxes Officers, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and other officials.
The team inspected shops at Chowk Chabutra, Pacca Danga, Shalamar Road, City Chowk, Residency Road, Jewel Chowk, and other areas. The drive was conducted after complaints that many traders are not issuing invoices to customers and are evading GST. During the drive, on spot directions were issued to the traders to maintain their purchase & sales bills properly. Record of some shopkeepers were seized for scrutiny and further course of action under norms was initiated. The Additional Commissioner stated that such drive would help in raising the compliance and also help in expanding the GST base particularly to bring under the ambit of GST those dealers who are suppressing their sales and are deliberately avoiding to come under GST.
