Conversion of ESI Hospital Bari Brahmana to COVID Hospital irks IPs
District Admin ignores plights of thousands of workers
6/5/2020 11:42:18 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 5: The arbitrary decision of District Administration Samba for conversion of ESI Hospital Bari Brahmana into COVID hospital has received strong criticism from the Insured Persons (IPs) alleging that the interests of thousands of the workers, who avail facility from this lone hospital have been overlooked.
Workers told Early Times that the despite the fact that ESI Hospital Bari Brahmana is the only hospital, which cater the health issues of thousands of workers who are insured and their dependents under ESIC scheme. For any general ailment and subsequently for advanced treatment, the patients had to visit this hospital but the illogical move of District Administration Samba, the 50 bedded hospital has been designated for COVID -19 patients and other patients who were having treatment were sent elsewhere.
They further alleged that the plights of thousands of industrial workers and their dependents were overlooked despite the fact that the hospital runs through the 100% contribution of employees and their employers and not funded by State or Center government yet concerned administration took unilaterally decision by overlooking this marginalized lot.
“There are many other government hospitals in district, where these COVID patients could have been shifted for the treatment but with this move of concerned administration has deprived hundreds of patients of their legitimate right who used to visit hospital on daily basis. It is very shocking that 50- bedded hospital has been designated for only 5-7 COVID-19 patients and left thousands of other workers high and dry,” they alleged.
Even employer’s associations have also objected to the move of district admin and demanded to shift these patients by making other arrangements so that workers may get general health treatment without any hurdle. In this connection, a representation has also been sent to Lieutenant Governor and Union MoS Dr Jitendra Singh by the workers’ association for their immediate intervention, they added.
