Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, July 2: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Ghulam Nabi Itoo has suspended Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Baramulla for dereliction of duties during the Corona Virus pandemic and attached the officer with the office of Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla while taking a serious note of the ‘laid back’ attitude of Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Baramulla while enforcing the lockdown imposed due to COVID-19 in Baramulla district ordered for his attachment and assigning the charge to some other officer.
“Pending enquiry in the matter, Mr. Wali Mohammad, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Baramulla is placed under suspension with immediate effect and shall remain attached with DC Office Baramulla. Mr. Tariq Ahmad, Assistant Director, FCS&CA shall hold the charge of EO MC Baramulla in addition to his own duties,” wrote the DC in the order.
The order issued under order number DCB/PS/2520-23 dated 29-06-2020 further reads, “Assistant Commissioner (R) Baramulla shall conduct the enquiry into the matter and submit his report within 05 days.” The subject mentioned in the order is failure to perform duty regarding enforcement of lockdown in municipal area Baramulla.
Early Times has learnt from sources that the concerned officer failed to implement the lockdown restrictions in the Baramulla town and it was due to this reason that more than allowed movement was witnessed in the town. They said that enforcement guidelines were not implemented in letter and spirit and it was free for all in the town.
“Some of the hotels were found violating the lockdown norms and they were ordered to be sealed by the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla.
It was due to the lackadaisical attitude of the Executive Officer that the owners of these hotels were operating their establishments devoid of social distancing and other precautions needed to counter Corona Virus,” said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that this is the second case in the recent past that punitive action has been taken against an officer of Urban Local Bodies department.
Few days back Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal ordered for an enquiry against Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Ganderbal after the officer was found facilitating construction of some illegal structures and remaining missing during demolition of one of illegal structures.
Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal has asked the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal to carry out a probe in the whole matter and submit the report within a fortnight to the office of Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal. The Additional Deputy Commissioner has been asked to carry out an in-depth enquiry in the matter.
