After 70-years Congress realizes it was on wrong side
Remains silent on July 13 episode, issues no statement

Early times Report

Jammu, July 13: Silence maintained by the Congress over July 13 issue this time around has proved it beyond doubt that party has realized that it was on the wrong side for the past so many decades.
It’s in place to mention here that when the Jammu and Kashmir government late last year dropped July 13 from the list of gazetted holidays in the erstwhile State, Kashmir based political parties issued series of statements to eulogize the day.
However, that time also Congress remained tightlipped.
On July 12, almost all the Kashmir centric political groups issued official statements underscoring the importance of July 13 day in Kashmir’s history. National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone, CPI (M) of Mohd Yusuf Tarigami, Peoples Democratic Front by Hakeen Yasin all in unison issued individual statements. But the Congress party contrary to the past practices did not utter a single word. “This is a very important development. This stoic silence of the Congress party has indicated a tectonic shift in its overall policy and it seems to have separated its policies from the regional political groups of Kashmir. Interestingly, till last year, a delegation of Congress party leaders used to visit the graveyard in old city of Srinagar to pay tributes to those killed on July 13, 1931. What has changed this year for the part is quite oblivious. It doesn’t want to be identified with the mavericks anymore,” said a politician.
In the past also, there were enough hints dropped by the senior party leadership over its change in the strategy.
On March 14, this year, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad met the released NC patriarch, Dr Farooq Abdullah, at latter’s residence. Azad subtlety ducked the issue of article 370, hinting that his party has accepted the abrogation of JK’s special status.
