GDC Vijaypur organizes online guest lecture

Jammu, Sept 14: Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur organized an online guest lecture on Gender Mainstreaming and Sensitization at Workplaces.
Dr. Kamni Pathania, Chairperson GSCASH (Gender Sensitization Committee against Sexual Harassment) SMVDU was the resource person of the lecture. The main aim of the lecture was at gender equity, securing women at workplaces and colleges to compete at par and to help women shift from existing stereotypes. In her lecture, she talked at length about how gender disparity takes place in the society which includes family, education, media and language and how an individual’s upbringing can affect his or her thought process.
She also deliberated upon the importance of gender sensitization and different laws made in our legal system regarding the prevention of sexual harassment at work places and means of its effective redressal. A large number of students from Colleges and Universities attended the lecture. Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College thanked the resource person for such a compelling and insightful lecture and urged the students to openly share their experiences as well as opinion about sexual harassment. She further added that raising awareness on such issues is a process which helps to facilitate the exchange of ideas, improve mutual understanding and develop mindsets necessary for societal change. She also lauded the organizers for organizing such activities that aren’t study related, but also help students becoming better human beings. Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal coordinated the event.
