EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sept 14: Congress has expressed great concern over the circumstances enforcing the principal Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu to offer voluntary retirement amidst the grim covid situation and urged for close coordination and cooperation at all levels to minimize the sufferings of the people.
Reacting to the development, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma questioned the circumstances forcing such a senior doctor and committed doctor to offer to quit and asked the Lt Governor to immediately intervene to improve the facilities and working of the department, as the issues raised by the head of the institution need to be seriously taken.
He said that the facilities and additional infrastructure was better created in Kashmir, which is good but why there are shortcomings of such a kind in Jammu hospitals which is serious concern for all. The patients are facing acute hardships on account of inadequate facilities and manpower for which the government is answerable.
He sought a probe into reports of malfunctioning of the oxygen plants installed only five years back and why such a plant was not installed in the CD hospital, converted into covid Hospital. He also questioned as why Jammu is lagging behind in terms of upgradation of facilities created in the wake of covid threat during past six months and why to shift the blame on the hospital authorities alone and it should go or be shared where it deserves.
The LG may also involve some retired doctors of repute for advise and listen to their advise especially the present one on priority rather than the will usually imposed by the bureaucratic system over and above the experts. It is time for the entire system to work in coordination and leave the ego’s for the safety of lives of people and to minimize their suffering and to improve the overall health care system to deal with serious situation of covid going worse everyday.
