EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sept 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has cancelled the establishment of an isolation centre for COVID-19 positive patients in a newly constructed mourning hall at Mini Township, Jagti.
An order issued in this regard reads, “Kindly refer to this office letter No. RRCM/E/1447-52 dated 24.09.2020 wherein a newly constructed hall behind Block No. 6 Lane No. 1 in Mini Township Jagti, Jammu was identified to be converted into COVID-19 Isolation Centre. However, inmates of adjoining blocks are having some apprehension about the safety of people living around said hall and were protesting against the previous letter of this office. In this connection, Undersigned, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu along with Camp Commandants of Mini Township Jagti and other officers visited the spot in the early hours of this morning and also heard the view point of inmates living around the said hall. They are of the view that this hall has close proximity with blocks where inmates are residing. It is also here to inform that this hall doesn’t have its boundary wall. In these circumstances it is requested that the earlier proposal for converting the said hall to COVID-19 Isolation Centre may please be treated as withdrawn.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Government had earlier issued an order to convert a newly constructed mourning hall near Block No 6 in Lane No 1 into an isolation centre for COVID- 19 positive patients belonging to Jagti colony keeping in view the significant surge in positive cases of the virus but the inmates living around the hall protested over the move citing reason that such a centre cannot be established there as it was in close proximity to residential blocks, adding that there should be a distance of at least 40 meters between the isolation centre and any residential building.
A team of officers headed by RRCM T K Bhat, Addl DC Ghansham Singh, Addl Director Planning Relief Rajneesh Kapoor, Camp Commandant Jagti Ms. Punika and others today visited the camp and assured the residents living around the mourning hall that no isolation centre for COVID-19 positives will be established here, instead a medically suitable accommodation will be identified for the purpose very soon.
Meanwhile, locals have urged the concerned authorities to use SDH Jagti for the purpose. “The hospital is a two storey building and could be suitable accommodation for COVID-19 positive patients if its upper storey is established as isolation centre,” stated a social activist Sunil Pandita while talking to Early Times.
