Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 5: Tractor Union of Jammu, under the leadership of Arif Hussain, chairman of the union today staged a protest demonstration against the ban on mining.
The protest was also supported by young polțcal activist, Partap Singh Jamwal alongwith Bhanu Partap Singh Goria who said that common people are ignorant about the benefits from the ban on mining, but what they know is that the ban has been like a dark cloud covering Jammu and Kashmir and bringing a lot of misery to the people.
He said that the ban on mining has largely affected daily earners, who are dependent on mining.
"If this ban continues, effected familes will die of starvation, as it has affected everyone from labourers and mine owners to transporters, " Said partap, adding that since the ban on mining, many people have been struggling to send their wards to school.
Partap also admitted that there was a need to adopt measures to safeguard the environment but insisted that there needs to be proper plans and assessment of ground realities before imposing the ban.
Stating that they would fight the issue “till the end”, Partap said a delegation of the organisation would knock on the doors of UT administration.
Earlier, chairman of the union said that over thousands of labourers and their familes engaged in mining have been severely affected by the ban.
