| Rohtang tunnel: A gateway to happiness | | |

Recently prime minister Narinder Modi has inagurated the World’s longest tunnel at Rohtang (H.P).Constructed under the Rohtang pass it is a very crucial connectivity between the Manali (H.P) and Lahol Spiti ( leh). By the construction of this historic tunnel the distance between both the destination reduces at considerable scale. It is a perennial I.e all weather connectivity between the two places I.e Manali and Lahol Spiti generally cut off from the rest of the world for six months due to heavy snowfall and winter climate. Mostly people of this region generally depends upon nearby Manali and other cities I.e Mandi ( H.P) for their needs and requirements. Now with the construction of this tunnel both the places which are also the favourite tourist destination for people get benefit at great extent. Earlier it was very difficult to reach at Lahol Spiti during the winter season. Now the farmers of this region also sell their produce at Manali and other markets of Himachal Pradesh. However for military point of view it was the greatest necessity of the time. Because at present we have seen that China is continuously posing threat to our security at these Himalayan regions. China has constructed lot of highways and other connectivity mediums. She is continuously posing threat to our security and safety in this north eastern region of our country. In order to combat with this situation there was dire necessity of the time to construct some safe and well furnished connectivity at these sites. Such type of safer construction of connectivity not only needed for our defence but for the local inhabitants of these areas these things provide a better means of transport. There are lot of places of tourist attraction in these regions. But due to unavailability of proper road connectivity these places couldn’t get the proper attention of tourist all the year. These are also the suitable places for organising many winter games and other attractions. Rohtang tunnel will definitely attract the lot of tourist across the country and world for these events. This will boost the economy of this region. Rohtang tunnel now popularly known as Atal tunnel because it was started by the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at his tenure. It was a dream project of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In order to give the honour to late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee it is now named as Atal tunnel. It is ten meter wide tunnel equipped with lot of latest technologies. There is proper facility of light and air in this tunnel. Moreover an emergency exist tunnel is also constructed along with this main tunnel to provide a safer route in case of any untoward incident. Lot of cctv cameras and fire extinguishing equipment are also installed in this tunnel. This is a great achievement of border road organisation in the world.with the construction of this tunnel the distance between leh to Manali reduce upto 50 kms. It saves the precious 4 to 5 hours of passengers and for other freight facility. It is about 9 kms in length. It was a very difficult task for BRO to construct this tunnel at such a height.lot of obstacles came during the construction of this tunnel. Due to avalanche and water logging problem it was very difficult to construct this tunnel. No doubt it is biggest achievement of our engineering technology.
No doubt Lahol Spiti is known for growing the best varieties of fresh peas, cauliflower and other exotic varieties of fresh vegetables. Now with the construction of this tunnel it is very easy to transport all these eatables products well in time to other parts of the country in their original condition. Moreover it is alleged that opening of Rohtang pass will spoil prestine scenic beauty of the place and creates other environmental problems in the area. But there is nothing danger to all these things because it is constructed keeping in mind all the protocols and safety measures in mind it is a masterpiece of engineering and art .construction of this tunnel at this mountainous region above such height of sea level was not a easy task with the construction of this tunnel now these places become the biggest selling point of tourism. It will definitely brings a new economic revolution in these places. Lot of local youths and other needy people will get the job and other mediums of their earning. After the Jawahar tunnel which connects the Jammu with Srinagar this is the another biggest masterpiece of engineering and technology. However Jawahar tunnel was built by German engineer but it is built with the collaboration of BRO. These mega construction at such crucial places will definitely give a boost to our defence and economic needs in these mountainous region where there is great threat to our borderlines such underground and safer structure are needed on priority basis. However government has already constructed lot of bunkers and other community underground structure across the border line for the safety of the public. As we know there is continuous threat of cross border firing and infiltration in these regions. These underground constructions provide safety to all the humans and animals during any adverse condition. Construction of Atal tunnel will definitely bring a smile on the faces of people of these mountainous regions. Now they are not feeling isolated and remote. Topographically these are the most inaccessible and isolated region of the country. Only proper mode of transportation and connectivity can change the fate of these regions and people of this area. This tunnel (Atal tunnel) undoubtedly a gateway of happiness for these regions. |
