Illegal Gold Trade: 3 held for extortion on NH, 3 lakhs recovered

KISHTWAR, Oct, 28: Kishtwar police today claimed to have solved an extortion case on Kishtwar-Jammu National Highway and recovered Rs. 3 lakhs from the three accused held by the police following the complaint lodged by the local jeweller claiming that he was robbed by the gang while he had gone to meet them for the purchase of the gold.
The incident put of the lead on the trade of illegal gold trade being run by some lesser known goldsmith- thus causing huge losses to the state exchequer.
While divulging the details, Additional SP Kishtwar Musheem Ahmed told the Early Times that on 24-10-2020, a written complaint was lodged by one Sajid Ali Zergar (Jeweller) S/O Lt. Mohammad Isaq Zergar R/O Hidyal Kishtwar was received at Police Station Kishtwar, wherein it has been alleged that on 22-10-2020 the complainant was contacted telephonically by some unknown accused person who allured/motivated the complainant to sell him Gold on cheaper rates and accordingly was asked to bring money to the tune of Rs. 5 lakhs with him at Drabshalla by the accused.
On reaching Drabshala highway, he was asked to move to some abandoned place near Kandini added that sensing the honey trap of accused persons, the complainant tried to move back towards Kishtwar, on the way back he was restrained forcibly with criminal intention and had been kept under the life threat and dire consequences.
The accused person snatched/looted the hard earned money of complainant amounting to the tune of Rs. 5 lakhs and fled from the spot.
On this complaint, a case FIR No. 201/2020 U/S 341/392/120-B/506/IPC had been registered at Police Station Kishtwar and a special team headed by SHO Kishtwar Abid Hussain Bukhari, assisted by Sub Inspector Jatinder Singh Rakwal swung into the action on technical investigation rounded up accused persons namely Yaseen Wahid s/o Abdul Wahid Ganie and Muzamil Shabir s/o Shabir Ahmed Both r/o Tehsil Bhaderwah District Doda, who during sustained investigation broke down and confessed their involvement into the preplanned crime and also narrated the role of one conspirator namely Khalid Kotwal s/o Khurshid Kotwal r/o Hidyal Kishtwar, who played a key role in the execution of nefarious design of extortion.
All the three accused persons were accordingly arrested and Rs. 3 lakhs that were looted/extorted has been recovered while some more arrests are expected shortly in the instant case. The arrests and recovery has been made by the team of P./S Kishtwar headed by SHO P/S Kishtwar Inspector Abid Hussain Bukhari, Sub-Inspector Jatinder Singh Rakwal under the close supervision of Dy. SP Headquarters Kishtwar Davinder Singh Bandral and Additional Superintendent of Police Musheem Ahmed under overall supervision of Sr. Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Dr. Harmeet Singh Mehta.
In a question related to practice of sale of illegal/smuggled gold by some jewellery shops and it possible ramifications of misuse of such gold trade, ASP Kishtwar said that the police is investigating the case on all aspects added that the investigation of the instant case is in progress. He said that no gold has been recovered from the accused.
