11/14/2020 1:58:12 AM

Early times Report

Jammu, Nov 13: Animal clinical cum awareness camp was organized by Division of Veterinary Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST Jammu at Dansal.
The camp was organized under patronage of Dr. J.P Sharma Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST J and guidance of Director Research SKUAST J, Dean FVSc & AH and Head Veterinary Parasitology. The camp was organized under Indian Council of Agricultural Research National Fellow scheme “Development of sensitive and specific diagnostic assay for the detection of warble fly infestation in goats and eradication of the disease from Jammu and Kashmir” in collaboration with Department of Sheep Husbandry, Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
About 50 sheep and goat breeders mainly belonging to Gujjar and Bakerwal community with holding of about 8000 sheep and goats attended the camp. Parasitic infections of the livestock were the major issues faced by the breeders, for which on the spot fecal examination was done and the breeders were advised deworming accordingly. Dr. Anish Yadav, ICAR National Fellow delivered a talk on impact of parasitic diseases on economics of sheep and goat production. The breeders were prompted to adopt strategic deworming schedule prescribed by SKUAST Jammu to counter the drug resistance. Further, they were sensitized about goat warble fly disease (locally known as ‘Midu’) and the losses incurred by it due to reduced production. The livestock holders were encouraged to join hands towards eradication of goat warble fly by applying microdose of Ivermectin in the first fortnight of July. The audience was enthusiastic to receive expert guidance and remedies for this significant yet neglected disease of goats. Dr. Anil Koul, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Jammu, highlighted different government schemes for promotion of livestock rearing and encouraging youth towards entrepreneurship to avail the benefits of these schemes. Dr. Rizwana Zargar, Veterinary assistant surgeon, block Dansal stressed on timely vaccination of livestock. Dr. Shafiya Imtiaz presented the vote of thanks. The diagnostic testing was undertaken by Dr. Vikas, Dr. Aiman, Dr. Kaifa and Dr. Sofi Omer.
