DDC elections: Has Cong high-command mortgaged party to Gupkar Alliance in J&K?
11/23/2020 12:05:29 AM

Early times Report

Jammu, Nov 22: Even as BJP has pressed all its resources to win District Development Council (DDC) elections, its arch rival Congress appears to be fighting these polls casually-thanks to the attitude of party high-command.
Unlike BJP high command which already has given assignments to Union ministers for these elections, Congress central leadership has no time to devise strategy for DDC polls.
On the condition of anonymity, a senior Congress leader told The Early Times that it appears that the high command has mortgaged the party to the Gupkar Alliance because not even a single leader from Centre has so far inquired about preparations of the J&K unit for DDC polls. “High command is not taking these elections seriously despite the fact these polls are very crucial for strengthening the party at the grass-root level”, he said.
The newly appointed national general secretary incharge of the party, Rajni Patil had visited twice in Jammu during the last two months but after announcement of DDC elections she could not spare time to interact with local leaders to formulate policy to fight these important elections. Patil had conducted the tour as a ritual without giving any directions to the local leadership about DDC elections.
“After humiliating defeat of the party in Bihar assembly elections, Congress high command is completely demoralized and senior leaders are busy shifting blames on each other at this crucial time”, sources said.
Sources in the Congress said that the high command has asked the J & K unit to fight these elections on their own or take help from leaders of the Gupkar Alliance. “It is all due to the casual approach of the party high command that leaders of the Gupkar Alliance are also not taking J&K Congress leaders seriously. Despite having seat adjustment, Gupkar Alliance has not left respectable seats for Congress in Kashmir Valley so far”, sources said.
