Political parties start wooing electorates with liquor in DDC elections

RAJOURI, Nov 24: The huge seizure of liquor by Rajouri Police in collaboration with Army has indicated that political parties have allegedly started their unfair ways to woo electorates in upcoming DDC elections in Rajouri.
Sources told Early Times that ever since the DDC elections have been announced the entire Rajouri district has become political arena and major political parties and independents candidates have started using their different methods to influence voters. They further said that the money and muscle powers are being used to bring voters into their kitty. "In recent incident, where police with the help of army's Rashtriya Rifles battalion here in Rajouri have seized a huge consignment of liquor that was being smuggled towards Keri Doongi area and recovered 2740 bottles of liquor of different values," they said.
As per official note, on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, two vehicles on way from Kallar to Doongi were intercepted by joint team of police and army and during frisking, a huge consignment of liquor was found loaded in these vehicles. "24 cases of beer, 24 cases of liquor of 250 ml in each bottle and 26 cases of liquor of 180 ml in each bottles were recovered from both these vehicles," it reads.
"2740 bottles packed in 74 cases have been seized with this major liquor smuggling bid has been foiled with the help of army team of RR battalion and by a police team headed by Police Post Incharge Chingus Chatyar, SI Ashish Chowdhary under the supervision of SHO Rajouri Sameer Jillani and Deputy SP Headquarters Vinod Sharma" it reads.
Two accused were arrested stand identified as Deepak Sharma son of Ashok Kumar resident of Agrati who was driving vehicle JK11D 5267 and Mohd Zahid son of Sadiq Hussain resident of Doongi Brahmana who was driving vehicle JK11D 6542.
While talking to Early Times, SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli said that all the security forces and security agencies have stepped up security arrangements in Rajouri district to foil nefarious designs of any anti-social elements in view of DDC polls.
On being asked about the hand of some political parties in bringing such huge consignment in the Rajouri, SSP said that the investigation is on and possibility of use of seized liquor in DDC elections cannot be ruled out.
Meanwhile, the prominent persons of civil societies of Rajouri district have vehemently appreciated the efforts of police in capturing such huge consignment of liquor being transported illegally.
