BARAMULLA, Nov 27: All the security arrangements have been put in place to thwart any sort of anti national activities in and around polling stations that have been notified in north Kashmir.
A top police official told early times that advanced security and all other relevant arrangements have been put in place to ensure transparent, safe and secure conduct of first time District Development Council (DDC) elections, panchayat by elections in Kashmir valley.
"From past one month we have been regularly conducting meetings about the conduct of elections, even our men will be keeping close vigil on movements of every suspicious person, we have ensured it that elections should be conducted in a safe and transparent way, '' the official said.
When asked about the challenges keeping some tough challenges in consideration, the official informed that all the security arrangements have been tightened in and around the polling stations, the polling staff have been dispatched to their respective polling areas along with all the relevant election materials.
Besides their security, the heating, lodging and other arrangements have been made fully; we have directed the local authorities to provide all logistic support to the polling parties, adding besides law and order and security arrangements, special arrangements have been made in volatile places and far flung areas of Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla districts.
He said that special arrangements of postal ballots are being made for various categories of people which included senior citizens, keeping in view of COVID- 19.
Whoever would like to participate in the polling process, the opportunity to exercise his/ her right to franchise will be given to them with all sorts of possibilities, the official said.
People are appealed to follow all Covid-19 related SOPs including use of face mask and hand sanitizers while participating in the election process.
We have also asked all the officials to ensure availability of face masks and hand sanitizers at all polling booths during the voting process to ensure containment of spread of Covid-19.
Meanwhile it is also learnt from district official Kupwara that as many as 98 nomination forms have been received for phase-VI till November 26 (last date for filing of nomination papers) of upcoming District Development Council (DDC), Panchayat by-election in the district.
These include 10 nomination forms for 01 District Development Council (DDC) constituency viz. Nutnussa and 10 nomination forms received against 03 vacant Sarpanch seats and 78 nomination forms against 65 vacant Panch seats in the DDC constituency.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 01 and polling for the phase-VI shall be held on December 13, wherever it is necessary.
