Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 27: Law Department of University of Jammu has allegedly put the career of students at stake by delaying the examination process.
A delegation of the students and parents while talking to Early Times said, “The department not holding online examination has left the students in lurch. The varsity should hold the open book exam on the pattern of Delhi University.”
The delegation said that students having backlog papers of semester 2 and 4 have been left high and dry as they will have to wait for next session to clear the supplementary papers.
“Student of Delhi University have been taking regular online classes. The DU has conducted open book exams online, but the JU has turned a blind eye towards the practice being followed by Delhi University. If the Law Department continues to sleep over the issue students are likely to lose one year as the university has neither taken exams of 4th semester nor of the 5th,” the students said. The delegation sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and requested him to instruct the Vice-Chancellor to conduct exams on time. Sources told Early Times that the JU Law Department had issued the examination notice for various semesters on 24-9-2020.
According to the guidelines examination has to be conducted within 30 days of the notification but due to the alleged carelessness of the Law Department it took two months to complete the examination process.
“In this entire process, the department didn’t take exams of students having backlog in semester 2 and 4. All these exams were to be conducted online; even exams of Semester- 6 were conducted,” they added.
“The Law Department violated the notification of Dean Academic Affairs JU regarding conduct of examination wherein it was clearly mentioned that the students of the terminal semester having backlog of previous semesters shall be evaluated by conducting examinations by the Nodal Departments as per the above-mentioned procedure,” sources added.
“Although students approached the Head of Department (HoD) regarding this problem but he refused to hear their grievances,” they claimed.
