Sending children to Govt schools
12/16/2020 11:17:56 PM
The government employees and teachers not sending their children to the government schools has always been a point of discussion. The question which everyone keeps on asking is are the government schools only meant for the children of poor people?
The teachers in government schools are well qualified than the ones in private schools, despite that private institutions produce better results and every parent who can afford tries his best to secure the admission for his ward in a private school.
The government every year spends crores on the education sector.
This sector has always remained a priority for all the regimes that have ruled Jammu and Kashmir in the past. But it has remained underdeveloped due to one or other reason. The unfortunate part has been that these schools have failed to compete with the private institutions.
The teachers in the government schools are paid better than their counterparts in the private institutions and their jobs are secure. After the outbreak of COVID-19 in March this year many private school teachers lost their jobs but the ones working with the government remained safe.
Recently, School Education Department claimed that it has received more than 40000 new admissions across Kashmir in the past two weeks. The officials had termed it as a big achievement but without ascertaining the reasons for students shifting their schools. The biggest cause for the students to move to the government schools has been that the people during the COVID times have lost their jobs and businessmen have suffered immense losses. Many parents in Jammu as well as Kashmir region have shifted their children to the government schools as they were finding it difficult to pay the fees in private schools.
The enrollment increasing in the government schools during the COVID times could prove to be a game changer if the authorities concentrate on improving the standard of education in these institutions. Mere statements and counting achievements is not going to help anyone’s cause. Words have to be translated into actions to infuse new life into the government schools so that students don’t suffer.
COVID-19 pandemic is about to end and everyone is hoping that schools will start functioning normally from March next year. The Education Department needs to gear up to put the derailed system back on track so that the government employees and the government teachers change their minds and send their children to these institutions.
