Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 6: Two days after Early Times published news regarding non availability of electricity in village Chandali in Sarthal area of Kishtwar District after the village transformer suffered damages, the villagers finally get the damaged transformer replaced with new and enhanced capacity transformer.
As per the details available with Early Times, the poor condition of the transmission and distribution system in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is hunting the people during ongoing winter as the people of village Chandali in Sarthal area of Kishtwar District get electricity restored only after 27 days due to which the people are suffering.
As reported by the Early Times, the transformer installed at village Chandali some 35 KM from District Headquarter Kishtwar suffered fault as a result of which the locals demanded its immediate replacement.
Since the department lacks manpower, the people on its own shifted the damaged transformer aimed snowfall to nearest road point since it is very difficult for the vehicle to reach the site where the said transformer stands installed due to accumulation of the snow on muddy road along with its slippery condition.
Speaking to Early Times, Ram Rattan Aryan said that the village lacks basic amenities including road and health infrastructure beside other facilities including drinking water & education.
Ram Rattan said that over a dozen people first carried the damaged transformer on their shoulders up to 5 kilometers so that they could replaced it with new transformer and later also took the new transformer back and get it installed with the help of the Power Department officials.
"We get power in the village only after 27 days - thanks to everyone who help us in installation and procurement of new 63 KV transformer" said Ram Rattan added that these 27 days without electricity are testing days for them- particularly the students who suffered a lot due to lack of electricity.
The locals said that it was after hectic parleys, the power Development Department provided the replacement of transformer for installation at the village.
The villagers urged upon the PDD officials to not charge the rent from the people for the month of December 2020 since there was no electricity to the villagers due the non availability of the transformer that suffered damages and replaced only after 27 days spent under darkness.
