Coaching centers calling shots
1/20/2021 9:26:25 PM
Despite schools and other educational institutions remaining closed in Jammu and Kashmir, coaching centers have become operational and students are thronging these places in droves.
No one knows whether these centers are following the COVID-19 norms or are taking as many students as they want. There is no check on the fee these centers are charging. It's unfortunate that these centers have become money minting machines and it seems that managements of these centers are not accountable to anyone. Parents who get their children enrolled in these centers are left with no option but to pay through their nose. If the fee of the private schools can be regulated and kept in check why can't the same yardstick be applied for these coaching centers?
The administration should pay some attention towards these centers that charge an exorbitant fee and compel parents to pay it in advance.
The schools and other educational institutions continue to remain closed due to the pandemic and are likely to reopen in next 2 to 3 months as the authorities don't want these places to turn into the COVID-19 hotspots. It's strange that the same yardstick is not being applied for the coaching centers in Jammu and Kashmir regions. The ones who have allowed these institutions to operate need to answer whether the pandemic has ended? And has life returned to normal?
These institutions should ensure that the COVID-19 norms are followed and the students remain safe. If the SOPs are not followed in letter and spirit there is every possibility about the situation taking an ugly turn.
Another aspect that the administration has to look into is that it has to ensure that fees of these centers are regulated and they are made accountable.
These institutions at the pretext of offering capsule courses to the students demand any amount. This needs to be checked.
These centers don't fall within the ambit of the fee fixation committee. A mechanism needs to be put in place to ensure that these centers don't dictate terms to the students.
There is no doubt about the fact that these institutions do produce toppers and help the youngsters to crack national level exams but these places should also be made accessible to the poor people who cannot afford the hefty fee these centers charge .
