Shocking: Mehbooba points finger on judiciary after Parra's bail rejected
2/24/2021 11:46:07 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Feb 24: 'Frustrated' over rejection of bail application of her close-aide Waheed Parra, former chief minister and president of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) president pointed finger towards judicial system of the country.
"Worrying trend that bail is no more the rule but an exception & an accused is assumed to be guilty without proof. Current state of affairs is such that under trials are jailed for months & even years languishing behind bars before charges are proven", she tweeted from her official twitter handle while expressing her anguish over denial of bail of her party's youth wing president Waheed Parra.
Trying of compare Parra's case with that of Disha Ravi, Mehboba tweeted, "The Delhi Court's judgment in Disha Ravi's case yesterday that mere allegations don't amount to a crime is in stark contrast with Special Court's decision to reject Waheed's bail purely on the basis of accusations without evidence". Mehbooba tried to give an impression that Parra has been arrested by the agencies merely on flimsy grounds without convincing evidence.
A special court on Tuesday rejected bail application of Parra today, observing the charges against him were "grave, serious and heinous in nature" and that a preliminary analysis of evidence collected so far show he was aiding terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir in the garb of a politician.
The Court rejected the argument that Parra was a budding politician and said "a perusal of the Crime Department file transpired that in the garb of a politician, the petitioner had been playing an active role in funding the militants and had also been demanding arms and ammunition against payment by misusing his position".
As reported earlier, Mehbooba is very particular about release of Waheed Parra because he is close-confident of PDP president and already her another close-aide Peerzada Mansoor has left the party. For the last few years, Mehbooba has tried to cultivate Waheed Parra as an emerging youth leader in Kashmir Valley by giving him important responsibilities.
Parra was detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (Kashmir) and brought from Jammu on a transit remand, after his release by an NIA court on January 9. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Parra on November 25, 2020 in a separate case related to terrorism.
