Purkhoo Camp residents suffer, courtesy PHE
Water Taps Turn Show Pieces

Early Times Report
jammu, Feb 25: Despite having PHE water supply connections several houses at the tail end of Purkhoo camp have not been getting supply of the potable water for the past many years. Although many complaints were lodged with concerned departments but till date their problems have not been mitigated due to which the residents have been suffering.
While narrating their woes, local residents of Purkhoo Camp behind IECS Polytechnic College said that the water supply doesn't reach their homes at the tail end and the issue has been brought into department's notice on many occasions.
"The PHE taps installed in our houses have become mere showpieces. Earlier we used to get supply but with the coming up of new houses in the area, the supply doesn't reach the tail end," the local residents said.
There are nearly 300-400 houses in the area and the main supply pipe is very small in diameter, which is inadequate to provide water to all the houses. "It has been observed that most people use electric pumping motor to enhance water supply, which is also one of the reasons that water supply does not reach the end points," residents said.
"We have requested the department to replace the pipeline with a new one or make some arrangement to provide the regular water supply through water tanks but our pleas fell on deaf ears," they said.
When Early Times contacted the AEE PHE Department Amarjeet Singh, he said that they have kept this project in their upcoming provision and most probably the work will be started in the first week of April this year.
"Departmental works in these areas will be executed in Phase-II and we are hopeful that soon the work will be started. Tendering of these works will be done as the department has no financial assistance to sort out the matter immediately. Although the matter of these areas along with the other was discussed recently in a meeting with the DDC Chairman," the AEE said.
