3/26/2021 11:24:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 26: A large number of students belonging to different parts of Kishtwar district were up in arms against the Higher Education Department as well as against the poor management at Government Degree College (GDC) Kishtwar.
The students alleged that they are being denied admission in Kishtwar College despite having good percentage in 10+2 examination.
As per the details available with Early Times, after denial of admission in Kishtwar College, several students are protesting in Kishtwar since last few days beside also knocking the doors of college management, district administration as well as that of politicians but they are unable to find any light at the end of the tunnel.
The angry students told the Early Times, that the government has fixed the intake capacity of various subjects by putting cap on number of seats in each sanctioned subjects for Kishtwar Degree College with few subjects had fixed cap of 80 seats while some other subjects with 40 seats, adding that due to fixing of the merit they fail to get the admission in Kishtwar college as a result of which they are fearing for the loss of academic year.
“College management displayed the merit list well before the last date for applying for admission with late fee as a result of which many meritorious students with some personal problems failed to apply during admission period without late fee” said a student wishing not to be named.
He said that Chatroo Degree College despite being directed by the government to start Science classes in the college issued “No Objection Certificate” to the students hailing from Sub Division Chatroo for facilitating their admission in Kishtwar College. They demanded action against the officials who issued mass scale “NOC” at Degree College Chatroo.
The students also submitted a written representation to DC Kishtwar requesting for his interference. “Please look into the matter & take up the issue with appropriate authority,” DC Kishtwar forwarded the application to Principle Degree College Kishtwar with request to look into the matter. The students said that in case government fails to address the issue, they will intensify the protest till they get the admission. “We have already suffered due to COVID on education front. We are now not ready sacrifice this academic year. It is the responsibility of the government to take care of our admission,” the students said. The college sources told the Early Times that they followed the directions given by the government, adding that the decision has to be taken by the Principal Secretary Higher Education and other senior officials.
“College management has forwarded the concern shown by the angry students to higher authorities. Now it is they who have to take the final call,” college sources maintained.
