Dr Manohar conducts tour of several villages in Billawar constituency
3/28/2021 12:15:54 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

KATHUA, Mar 27: Former Minister & President District Congress Committee (DCC) Kathua Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today conducted a one day tour of different villages of Ramkote, Kah, Gurhakalyal, Malti, Sukrala, Durang Amala Kandi and Bhaddu of Billawar Assembly constituency.
During his tour, Dr Manohar met with villagers, party leaders, workers, senior citizens and listen to their grievances and demands. The public in large showed their anger and resentment against the administration’s casual approach in solving their day to day basic needs like non-availability of drinking water, repairing of hand pumps, delayed payments under MGNREGA. Masses also showed their resentment over increasing prices of essential commodities like fuel, gas, cooking oils, pulses and other commodities of daily routine.
Addressing the gatherings, Dr Sharma said that due to rising prices of petrol, diesel and LPG, farmers, women and common people are upset. He further said that on one side, the government is reducing the burden of the rich by reducing taxes of big corporates, on the other it is putting more burden on women, middle class and common people, which they are unable to bear.
He said that the economic situation has been shattered in COVID-19 times and the rise in petroleum products is adding to the problems, and further lambasted Modi govt by saying that the cess and taxes on petroleum products have not been imposed by big bigger, developed countries as have been done by the Modi government. The entire country, including farmers are suffering due to the price rise and inflation.
He claimed that price of paddy and wheat have risen only by 30 per cent from 2016 to 2020 but diesel has risen by 89 per cent, and asked when the government will fulfill its promise of doubling farmers' income. Manohar advised BJP government to focus on people’s problems instead of dividing them on communal lines.
