GMC to stop elective surgeries from April 19

JAMMU, Apr 12: In a meeting held under the Chairpersonship of Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal, Govt. Medical College, Jammu to discuss the issues relating to the elective surgeries and functioning of the OT's and OPD's in view of the resurgence of COVID-19 pandemic.
All the HoD's emphasized that due to rise in COVID-19 cases, there is urgent need of increased infrastructure/manpower for COVID-19 wards/areas. After detailed deliberations, it was decided to stop all elective surgeries in the wake of the rise in COVID-19 cases from 19th of April, 2021 (Monday). It was decided that only essential Emergency/Onco. surgeries shall be conducted in GMC Jammu till further orders depending upon the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
It was decided in the meeting that all the previous COVID-19 SoP's/guidelines shall be strictly followed by every one and all the COVID areas used earlier will be renotified as COVID areas in a phased manner as agreed upon by the HoD's/Specialities of all clinical departments.
During the meeting, it was also decided to avoid crowding in the hospital premises, only 50 numbers of patients will be given daily appointments per speciality/ day for OPD's through dedicated mobile numbers already given to the respective HoD's. However, the telemedicines services will remain available as per the previous schedule. Further, if was decided that 32 beds of Ward No. 10 of Ophthalmology will be used for the management of surgery patients in view of re-notification of Ward No. 7 as COVID Ward.
The meeting was attended by HoD Radiotherapy, HoD Medicine, HoD Ophthalmology, Dr. Zahur Hussain, Dr. Sanjay Bhasin, Dr. Ratnakar Sharma and others.
