Early Times Report

Udhampur, Apr 12: The acute shortage of staff at Sub District Hospital Bani in district Kathua has left the needy people there to face lot of problems.
Sushil Kumar of Bani said that many poor people depend on this health institute but shortage of doctors there forces them to visit GMC Kathua or GMC Jammu for treatment in emergency cases. “We live in hilly areas, about 180 km from to Kathua GMC and many times patients succumb en-route whole being shifted to Kathua,” he maintained.
More people of the area said that they are left at the mercy of God especially when some lady undergoes labour pains or when someone suffers road mishap as immediate doctor service is needed in such cases.
Sources informed that requirement of the hospital is nine medical officers, five specialists including Gynaecologist, physician etc with only 4-5 medical officers and a specialist being available in hospital.
Sources informed that the anaesthesia doctor at the hospital remains busy at private clinic on hospital time as a result of which the patients suffer and are found waiting in hospital for check up.
Thakur Dass, another local and others urged upon LG, Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and especially appoint some gynaecologist in the hospital so that the people there heave a sigh of relief.
When contacted the BMO concerned said that he will look into the matter and act against the anaesthesia doctor if he found involved in private practice in duty hours.
CMO Kathua said that he has written to higher authorities regarding shortage of specialists doctors in the hospital and a response from there is awaited.
