Kishtwar reported 1st COVID death in 2021

KISHTWAR, May 3: After nearly 10 months since last death reported in entire Kishtwar due to COVID-19, the mountainous district today witnessed the first death due to the deadly virus this year.
As per the details available with Early Times, a 65 year old woman who was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at home was today rushed to the hospital by the family members, but within few hours she collapsed and died.
The family members told the Early Times that the deceased woman along with other family members tested positive for COVID last week and was under home isolation, adding that after being shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar, the doctors advised for putting her on ventilator but unfortunately Kishtwar District hospital lacks the staff to operate the ventilator despite the hospital had over a dozen ventilators installed.
“We were asked to the shift the patient to Jammu since hospital had no functional ventilator but unfortunately before we could do anything she left for heavenly abode,” said the son-in-law of the deceased. Meanwhile in Kishtwar District today 51 COVID positive patients recovered from the deadly disease. As per official data Kishtwar now has 117 active COVID-19 positive cases while Kishtwar district recorded 23 deaths since the outbreak of the disease last year.
