EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 5: To mark the World Cartoonist Day, Traffic Police organized an international online cartoon exhibition on road safety in which 108 cartoonists from 39 countries showcased their work giving a message of adhering to traffic norms. On the occasion a book of popular cartoons by Shekhar (Bunty Cartoonist) in year 2020-21 to educate traffic norms and other social activities was unveiled by SSP Traffic, Jammu Shiv Kumar Sharma, renowned journalist Sunny Dua and Trilok Singh.
In his message, SSP Traffic Shiv Kumar said that the exhibition of cartoons amidst the second wave of coronavirus pandemic was conceived to spread awareness among the commuters to follow the traffic rules without any lassitude and also remain on toes to ensure that the lethal virus is stopped from further transmission. He said that the cartoons displayed in the exhibition are of great importance and people should take a cue from them to become responsible users of roads and other public infrastructure. He made it clear that although the theme of this initiative is road safety, playing safe on other aspects of life also holds great significance. He asked the online guests to act as ambassadors of J&K’s Traffic Department in imparting the awareness on road safety and ask the society to follow COVID-19 guidelines religiously to make the world free of this dreadful disease as soon as possible. Around 108 cartoons were displayed in this daylong event and people appreciated the initiative through online responses and through telephonic conversation. The SSP Traffic Shiv Kumar also thanked all international cartoonists for conceptualizing this event and playing a pivotal role in giving shape to this initiative.
