JU takes several measures to save academic year of students

JAMMU, May 8: In view of the disruption caused by the pandemic in all spheres of life, the University of Jammu has put in place an efficient mechanism to ensure the safety of the students and is making all efforts using the resources available to save the academic year of the students without putting them to stress. In the last two weeks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Manoj K Dhar, convened a series of meetings with the Deans, Heads, and faculty from the University of Jammu and also the Principals of various Colleges affiliated with the University of Jammu, to undertake several steps to conduct the examinations of regular, private and distance learners of UG and PG levels. The process of conducting an open book examination of UG courses (Choice Based System) at the College level is already going on wherein the private students have also been accommodated along with the regular students of these Colleges.
With regard to Engineering students, after a series of meetings with the concerned Dean and faculty and based on the recommendations it was approved to conduct 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th-semester examinations of B.E./B. Tech./ B. Architecture (Regular and Private) students through the virtual mode. The notification for the same stands issued along with the date sheet of Examinations of B.E. 7th Semester.
The Vice-Chancellor, constituted a committee chaired by the Dean Academic Affairs to look into the modalities to be adopted for conducting examinations of B.Ed students. Based on the detailed recommendations of the committee, it was decided that the examination of B.Ed 3rd semester (2019-21) shall be conducted online and shall have written and oral components. In the meanwhile the class work of 4th semester was directed to start immediately in online mode. Date sheet for the online examination of B.Ed 4th semester special examination 2020 has also been issued for the left-out students.
The Vice Chancellor in a meeting on 4th May 2021 with the staff and officials from the Directorate of Distance Education approved that the Directorate of Distance Education shall also conduct Online Open Book examination (Non-CBCS) for the students of 1st, 3rd and 5th semesters (Regular /Private). This meeting was also attended by Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Jasbir Singh Controller of Examinations, and other officials from the Examination Wing of the University of Jammu. The process and pattern of examinations shall be notified separately. The Vice-chancellor has also directed the Controller of Examinations to conduct all PG examinations (Non-CBCS) of the Offsite campuses through the Nodal departments. The date sheet of the 3rd-semester examination of PG English, Bhaderwah Campus has also been notified in this regard. An online meeting under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor was also held on 4th May for the award of Ph.D to the successful candidates. In all, 13 scholars were awarded Ph.D degree in the meeting attended by the Dean Research Studies, Controller of Examinations, Deans of different faculties, Head of different departments and supervisors of the scholars along with the staff from the Examination Wing University of Jammu.
The offline examinations of the Medical stream stand postponed as per the directions of the Ministry of Education and notified by the UGC, with regard to holding of offline examinations, till further orders.
