Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 14 The summer capital Srinagar, which has recorded the major chunk of positive cases during the last over a month in the Union Territory of J&K, reported the lowest single day spike of fresh Coronavirus cases on Friday. Meanwhile, reacting to the reports, former chief minister and National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah asked whether the number of tests conducted over the strict Eid lockdown was the same or this number is the result of lesser tests conducted. Mr Abdullah said the ‘last thing we need is a lowering of our guard because of misleading data’. “Before we celebrate this number we need to know whether the number of tests conducted over the strict Eid lockdown was the same or this number is the result of lesser tests conducted. Any numbers? The last thing we need is a lowering of our guard because of misleading data,” Mr Abdullah tweeted. As many as 3027 positive COVID-19 cases, including 1511 from Jammu and 1516 from Kashmir, were reported in the Union Territory on Friday, when 60 people – 39 from Jammu and 21 from Kashmir – lost their lives to the infection. Of the 3027 fresh cases, Srinagar recorded 379 cases, which is the lowest during the last 20 days. Jammu for the first time has topped the list of districts in J&K in terms of fresh cases with 534 positive patients. The Jammu and Kashmir administration last week prolonged the 'COVID curfew', which was extended at least four times since April 29 till May 17 in the Union Territory. The extension in the lockdown in the UT had come in the backdrop of an unabated rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in J&K, particularly the summer capital, Srinagar.
