For second consecutive day recoveries outnumber fresh COVID-19 cases; 3677 new cases, 63 deaths

SRINAGAR, May 15: With the number of recoveries outnumbering fresh cases of Corona Virus over the past two days the COVID-19 recovery rate in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir has reached 77.30 percent even though 63 more people died due to the virus in the past 24 hours.
The number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir reached 2, 40,467 as 3,677 more infections were reported in the union territory in the past 24 hours. Out of 2, 40,467 positive cases, 1, 85, 902 people have recovered so far. Following 63 fresh deaths the death toll due to the virus reached 3,090.
Jammu district reported 22 fresh deaths followed by Srinagar district 10 deaths, Rajouri district six deaths, Poonch and Pulwama districts four deaths each, Anantnag and Kulgam districts three deaths each, Udhampur, Ramban, Baramulla and Budgam districts two deaths each and Kathua, Bandipora & Kupwara districts one death each.
Jammu district reported 621 fresh cases followed by Srinagar district 404 cases, Pulwama district 390 cases, Budgam district 262 cases, Rajouri district 250 cases, Anantnag district 188 cases, Udhampur district 163 cases, Kulgam district 160 cases, Bandipora district 147 cases, Samba district 145 cases, Kathua district 137 cases, Baramulla district 129 cases, Reasi district 122 cases, Kupwara district 110 cases, Ramban district 108 cases, Poonch district 102 cases, Ganderbal district 80 cases, Shopian district 79 cases, Doda district 46 cases and Kishtwar district 34 cases.
The Jammu & Kashmir administration through the media bulletin informed that 3,677 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 1,728 from Jammu division and 1,949 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 2, 40,467. Also 63 COVID-19 deaths have been reported, 37 from Jammu division and 26 from Kashmir division.
Moreover, 4,140 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 1,086 from Jammu division and 3,054 from Kashmir division. Out of 2, 40,467 positive cases, 51,475 are active positive, 1, 85,902 have recovered and 3,090 have died; 1,408 in Jammu division and 1,682 in Kashmir division.
Out of 78, 84,512 test results available, 76, 44,045 samples have tested negative till date. Till date 19, 56,494 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 72,947 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 51,475 in isolation and 1, 18,663 in home surveillance. Besides, 17, 10,319 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 57,199 positive cases, 8,879 active positive, 47,654 recovered, 666 deaths; Baramulla has 17,786 positive cases, with 3,522 active positive, 14,044 recovered, 220 deaths; Budgam has 15,702 positive cases, 4,027 active positive, 11,525 recovered, 150 deaths; Anantnag has 11,348 positive cases, 4,082 active positive, 7,131 recovered, 135 deaths; Pulwama has 10,565 positive cases, 2,609 active positive, 7,821 recovered, 135 deaths.
“Kupwara has 9,224 positive cases, 1,785 active positive, 7,323 recovered, 116 deaths; Kulgam has 7,532 positive cases, 3,387 active positive, 4,065 recovered, 80 deaths; Ganderbal has 6,816 positive cases, 1,075 active positive, 5,679 recovered, 62 deaths; Bandipora has 6,864 positive cases, 873 active positive, 5,917 recovered, 74 deaths and Shopian has 4,426 positive cases, 1,276 active positive, 3,106 recovered, 44 deaths,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 43,597 positive cases, 7,884 active positive, 34,911 recovered, 802 deaths; Udhampur has 8,650 positive cases, 1,528 active positive, 7,029 recovered, 93 deaths; Rajouri has 7,839 positive cases, 3,267 active positive, 4,452 recovered, 120 deaths; Kathua has 7,104 positive cases, 1,538 active positive, 5,474 recovered, 92 deaths; Samba has 5,502 positive cases, 1,949 active positive, 3,473 recovered, 80 deaths.
“Doda has 4,605 positive cases, 831 active positive, 3,701 recovered, 73 deaths; Reasi has 4,471 positive cases, 756 active positive, 3,693 recovered, 22 deaths; Poonch has 4,121 positive cases, 1,137 active positive, 2,925 recovered, 59 deaths; Ramban has 3,621 positive cases, 729 active positive, 2,851 recovered, 41 deaths and Kishtwar has 3,495 positive cases, 341 active positive, 3,128 recovered, 26 deaths,” reads the bulletin. Out of 2, 40,467 positive cases, 20,873 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least two meters from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
