Cousin convicted in molestation case

Jammu, May-15: A cousin who is facing trial in a molestation case has been convicted by the Court. Sub-Judge Bhaderwah Sumati Sharma has granted one year imprisonment to Sanjay Kumar who happens to be maternal uncle's son prosecutrix.
On 4-8-2020, the complainant of the case prosecutrix presented a written application before the Police Station Bhaderwah stating therein that she is a resident of Narnu tehsil Bhaderwah and that on 3-8-2020 at about 11:30 A.M, she went to her kitchen garden for bringing vegetables.
The complainant said that the accused Sanjay Kumar with a criminal intention was already hiding there.
When she reached there the accused held her arm and took away her Dupatta and was trying to close her mouth with the Dupatta.
Her father, who had been unwell for a long time and her grandmother were in the house.
She raised her voice to rescue herself and upon raising her voice her real brother who was doing labour work at someone's house in Narnu came there.
Upon seeing him the accused fled away with the Dupatta.
On the basis of complaint FIR for the commission of aforesaid offences was registered and investigation of the case commenced. After the completion of the investigation, the accused was found involved in the commission of aforesaid offences.
Sub-Judge Bhaderwah Sumati Sharma observed that nature of offence and increasing crime against women, the accused is not considered for extending the benefits of the Probation of Offenders Act.
However it has not came on record about any criminal antecedent or history of the accused, awarded one year imprisonment.
