‘No official approached us during past one month’

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 30: Tall claims of the administration to provide free ration to people living under Below Power Line (BPL) seem to be confined to papers only.
A group of beggars sitting outside a temple near Trikuta Nagar here while talking to Early Times said that no one from the administration has come forward to help them amidst the COVID-19 lockdown. “We don’t have ration cards but have Adhar cards. We had heard that Rs 1000/ monthly and ration will be provided to us but no one from administration has approached us during the past one month,” they said.
“Once a group of people had come. They gave us something and a mask and took a picture with us. Then they left,” said Uma Devi.
She said, “Since the day lockdown has been imposed they are facing starvation and no relief has reached them.”
It’s in place to mention here that the administration has been claiming that officials are reaching out to the people living under BPL. If ration is not reaching the deserving then who is getting it?
The beggars said that many people living in slums who survive on alms are facing acute scarcity of food and other items. They urged the administration to come forward and help them in this hour of crisis.
