Decades on, Padal awaits water supply lines | Residents trek 4 kms to get water for their survival, officials unmoved | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 31: Residents of village Padal in district Samba are facing acute scarcity of water for the past many decades. Residents while talking to Early Times said, “Till date many officials have visited our area but have failed to address the water scarcity in our area.” “We fetch the water from springs and streams in forests. We have to trek many kilometers to fetch a can of water. The stream is 4 kms from our village. The PHE has laid the pipes but water hasn’t reached us. We haven’t seen water flowing in our taps,” they said. Residents said that they have been fetching the water from streams and springs for our entire life. “It takes us two hours to fill one bucket of water as there is too much soil and muck in it. We have to clean it then take it for our use,” they added. Residents said, “Officials have turned a blind eye towards our sufferings. After we had raised hue and cry the administration had sent some water tankers but these have disappeared.” They said that their pleas have fallen flat on deaf ears as no one seems interested in addressing the issue of water scarcity. “No one can live without water but we have been deprived of this basic necessity of life,” they added. |
