“Numerology believer” outgoing J&K CS to relinquish office on June 7
6/6/2021 11:50:11 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 6: Strong believer in “Numerology”, outgoing Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir BVR Subrahmanyam wants to relinquish his office on June 7 to join a new assignment as OSD in the Union Commerce Ministry in the month end.
Although rumours were rife that ‘all is not well’ in the J&K administration because of the sudden replacement of Mr Subrahmanyam with Financial Commissioner Arun K Mehta as new Chief Secretary but reliable sources while rejecting the same said that it was all “numerology belief”.
“ Subrahmanyam is a firm “believer in numerology” and he wanted to relinquish office on June 7,” sources said.
“A believer in numerology, Mr Subrahmanyam had wanted to relinquish the office on June 7 even with Dr Mehta as Chief Secretary in waiting, but the Union Territory government hastened the process by issuing an order setting July 30 as the transition deadline,” sources added.
This gave way to a number of speculations and rumours about the manner of Subrahmanyam’s exit, they said.
Subrahmanyam has been posted as OSD in the Union Commerce Ministry and will succeed Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan on his retirement in June ending.
As per the order the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions said, “the appointments committee of the cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of B.V.R. Subrahmanyam IAS (CG; 87), Chief Secretary Jammu & Kashmir as an officer on special duty in the Department of Commerce.
“The ACC has also approved his appointment as Secretary, Department of Commerce upon superannuation of Anup Wadhawan, IAS (UK; 85), Secretary Department of commerce on 30-06-2021,” it further read.
According to sources, BVR Subrahmanyam had also left for New Delhi with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday.
“He will return back to Srinagar on Monday morning to formally handover charge related details to his successor Mehta and will again fly back to the national capital,” sources said.
Moreover, Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in a farewell meeting at Srinagar scoffed all rumours associated with the change of top bureaucratic guard in the Union Territory.
According to top sources in the administration, the Lieutenant Governor said that the process of recall of Subraymanyam to the Center had actually begun way back in January but it was at his (Mr Sinha’s) behest that the change of bureaucratic guard was not allowed to happen in the best interest of administration.
Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer of 1987 batch, Mr Subrahmanyam was a surprise check-in as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary in June 2018, barely two days after the Bhartiya Janata Party called it a day with Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti headed the coalition government.
