Youth leader terms new land law as unfortunate, absurd
Mahajans, Khatris, Sikhs deprived of selling, buying agri land in J&K

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 6: Youth leader and social activist, Partap Singh Jamwal on Sunday termed the new land law that bars, Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs from buying and selling agricultural land, as unjustified.
Talking to Early Times, he said, “The new land law is a glaring example of discrimination with members of particular communities.”
Jamwal said, “Late Mahraja Hari Singh had secured the rights of all the communities. It’s unfortunate that our rights are being snatched. The new land law is absurd. It’s unfortunate that natives, who include Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs, can buy or sell agricultural land in their own place.” Jamwal said, “We were more secure in the past and State Subjects were our pride. If they want to bring new laws they should come up with a ruling that undergraduates cannot contest the elections.” He alleged, “People who have got nothing to do with J&K are making domiciles. The 15-year rule to get a domicile certificate is beyond our comprehension.
Outsiders can become J&K residents but the natives of this place cannot buy or sell agricultural land. Isn’t it strange?”
He said, “It’s sad that land laws are different for different communities. Their claim of ek nishan, ek samividhan is a hoax, had these claims been true we wouldn’t have had different land laws for communities.”
Jamwal expressed surprise over the attitude of local BJP leaders, who are claiming that they are not running the system, and bureaucrats are managing the show. “They are running away from their responsibility,” he added.
