COVID care centers ‘mismanaged’ in Budgam
ADC says everything is ‘fair in war’
6/8/2021 12:18:23 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 7: The five bedded COVID-19 care centers set up in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district are being allegedly mismanaged.
It’s in place to mention here that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had announced setting up of these centres in every panchayat last month. He had directed the officials to ensure that these centers have the facilities that are needed to treat the suspected Covid cases. But it seems that officials are setting these centers just for the sake of formality.
According to Gulistan News a Covid care centre at a Panchayat in Budgam set up inside a government school had only 4 temporary beds without any oxygen support.
The panchayat workers claimed that they had paid for the beds from their pockets and have not received a single penny from the authorities.
“Our block members were instructed to arrange beds, mattresses and sheets for Covid patients in our Panchayat. Everything is handled by sarpanch and panchayat secretary.
We paid for these things ourselves, and arranged a few things on rent. We were told that we will be reimbursed but no one seem interested in paying us the money that we have spent,” panchayat workers claimed.
The reporter of the Gulistan news channel said that when he spoke to Additional Deputy Commissioner Budgam and apprised him about the claims of the panchayat workers, the ADC said, “Everything is fair in war.
The recovery rate is high and positive cases have declined.”
A social activist alleged that the isolation centers set up by the administration in the district are a “big failure’ as there is “no cleanliness, no hygienic toilets, no water facility and no electricity.
How can a Covid patient survive in these centres without the basic facilities. Beds are of inferior quality. These centers are just a mere eyewash. Officials on ground are misleading the higher ups,” he added.
